Only downside: the car said 'maintenance required' from the moment we drove out of the lot: and that was a little worrisome. Otherwise all good.

The car was nice/cleanI reserved a car for 12pm ET. Upon arrival, I was told there were no available cars and would need to wait a few hours until other drivers return their vehicles. I was stuck at the airport with nowhere to go, finally got a car around 2:30pm but didn't arrive in the evening until late Saturday evening. When I originally inquired about how there were no cars available despite confirming a reservation the week before, the front desk employees got a bit defensive. In the end, I made it to my destination. But it was a pretty bad experience overall.

The guy at the desk was really really nice but there was only one of him and he was in charge of two separate car rental companies which required separate computers. He also had really really nice customers who loved talking to him. This made each interaction last between 20-40 minutes. We were 4th in line, got there at 445 because we needed to leave town at 7, and we didnt get the rental car til almost 7, which pushed our schedule back quite a bit.
Returning the car was a snap.nothing

Agent at desk was friendlyI was assigned a car but it was not in it's location. I had to find an employee to find another car for me, which took about 15 minutes. The car I received was dirty and definitely wasn't cleaned beyond pre-covid standards. I'm not a germ freak, but greasy fingerprints on the screen and doors and a greasy feeling steering wheel are just nasty.

The price and the vehicle was great.At pickup, the vehicle was not ready, and had to wait. The help desk seemed to not want to be working. There was no information given about the return of the vehicle. I had to ask about return from the man working the gate, but even that was not enough. At return, there was no one to close the transaction, Just a sign saying to leave the keys in the car. I had to work with customer service for the next two days to get the extra daily charges removed from my credit card account because no one at the drop off location closed the account. I'll not rent from Thrifty and associated companies again.

The staff was friendly. The car had a bad odor of cigarettes but we bought some air fresheners that helped some.
We ended up having a blow out on the road and it took 2 days and ALOT of extensive holding times on the phone to get any help. What was worse was that the local offices never answered their phones during business hours to help in anyway. We gratefully got in contact with a representative that knew what she was doing, unlike the 3 others that were of no help at all - her name was Nicole. I couldn’t believe in a time like that how unprofessional and incompetent Hertz was. Good thing we weren’t completely stranded somewhere on the side of the road. One rep even told us we could contact our own tow truck (since there was no spare tire) and claim it on OUR insurance. What in the bloody?? Its not my vehicle!! What a fiasco. In the end it all worked out but I still haven’t gotten any response to my refund request for the 2 days we were without the vehicle.

I was scheduled to pick up my rental at 10 am. When I arrived I was told there were no cars available. They were expecting delivery from another city and it would be at least an hour. I would have appreciated a call advising of the delay. At 11:30 I was provided a car and an apology.
When I picked up my car, branch manager Danielle told me that they would give me a ride home after drop-off if I needed it. I did. It was quick, convenient, and easy. In a world where customer service is struggling because of covid, Hertz did a great job. I was really impressed.

I could not understand the service lady at the rental car pick up desk & felt deceived about the total cost for the rental. Maybe car rental rates have sky rocketed during the pandemic, but I don’t think I got a good deal through Dollar. The vehicle was clean though, which I appreciated.
Car was good. Pick up process took nearly a half hour to get through and it was just me. By far the slowest pick up process, and I had pre paid and made a reservation.
I paid the lowest rate possible by accepting Dollar's vehicle choice. When I went to the Dollar counter in Louisville airport, I was told that I could upgrade for $15. Being in a hurry and not wanting to argue, I accepted the $15 upcharge. Receipt indicated fuel was full, but it had less than 1/4 fuel in tank. I caught it and mentioned it to supervisor before driving. He asked the three guys there if one of them would fill it up. One guy indicated he just lit his cigarette and the other 2 sitting down, looked at each other and neither responded or stood up. The situation was ignored. After several minutes, one of the 4 entered the vehicle and started to take us, then he stopped and went back to the others. After 4-5 minutes of waiting, I walked over to them, asked what was going on, and then they indicated that they couldn't fuel it up with us in the car. Then another manager came up and told them to give us an upgraded vehicle that was ready to go. It was not as new as the initial Impala offered, but a Malibu is a step up. It was fairly clean, but I stopped to clean the side mirrors, windshield and rear window just for my personal choice and safety. One of the tire valve stem caps was missing, the passenger side child lock won't disable, and the low tire pressure warning light came on a few days later, then shut itself off? The tires all looked good. Bottom line, the customer service was extremely poor and to experience all 3 employees unwilling to assist or even get up in front of myself and my daughter was disappointing.
It took close to an hour of waiting in line to speak with a rental agent. We were sent to a car that was locked and no longer available. The car we ended up with still had trash inside. The man who checked us in was very friendly and the car was comfortable. Overall I was less then impressed with the experience.
Despite making an advance reservation paying in full, we waited in a long pick up lime just to be told 'we don't have any cars available.' My options were to upgrade to an SUV for an additional charge or be put on a 'wait list' for an unpredictable amount of time. I upgraded... from an expected VW Jetta... to a Chevrolet Trx. I'm not sure that's much of an upgrade and can hardly be called an SUV. Icing on the cake was finding a pending charge ony credit card for $291.00, when my total due was only $90.69. I had to wait on hold an hour so customer service could tell me that was a security deposit that would be returned. Why wouldn't they disclose that up front or somewhere in the paperwork? Overall, we got a vehicle and it was clean and functional. Dollar just doesn't score high on customer service, convenience, or ease of use.

My reservation wasn't valid, I couldn't get a car and had to get an uber that was over $200 due to the inconvenience. It was terrible!!

The staff was very friendly. The vehicle was not very nice.
For the size I reserved I was expecting something larger than I received. I reserved a standard suv. I was expecting something the size of a Ford Edge as was described online. Upon arrival I was given a Jeep Compass. Which the newer model is larger than past models but it is still far from a Ford Edge or something of similar size. It may also fall on me for not saying something in the moment but we were in a bit of a hurry to get on the road. This is more of an issue with enterprise and not kayak though.

The windshield was cracked on the van we rented so we had to go back to the airport to make sure we didn’t get the blame for it. Then we filled it up with gas prior to returning it and still got charged $87 fir a gas refill. Very poor rental company and not one for anyone to ever use.
Car was fine. And the rental agent did not press me to hard about buying extras.My car smelled like a smoker had just rented it. Did not like that. And, at drop off no one showed up for several minutes.
Use a different company. My flight from Afghanistan had engine problems and we did emergency landing and forced. To spend night in Bulgaria. I called in as soon as plane landed to cancel or pushback one day but agent said no help. When I finally got to Car Rental in SDF they double charged me and the rates went up to a premium of 85 dollars a day. But thank God we didn’t crash and all of us military got home to the USA safe and next time I just will not book their Kayak

Great deal!I loved driving the Ford Taurus! It was very nice and reminded me of a luxury car with the cream leather interior. The checkout process was very easy and quick! The checkin was even faster! Plus the value was amazing through Kayak.They don't do a walkthrough with the car. My rental had a damaged console in the middle, stains on the carpet, and a burn mark. I didn't want to be held responsible so I took pictures.

Very slow pickup, clerk did not know how to use the computer system and had to ask someone. Drop off was a mess as their computer system was down so the clerk asked me to hang out and wait for a bit. I responded that I had a plane to catch and that they would have to figure it out on their own time, which seems correct.

The biggest problem was the smell of the vehicle. It seemed like someone had smoked in the car and then tried to cover it up. Car smelled like a cheap hotel room. Also, there was a strong scent of either perfume or air freshener on the seat belt which then made me smell like that the rest of the day.

I filled up my car just before dropping it off. Fuel gage showed full. They still charged me 16 dollars for gas.
Car needs major service done on vehicle. What we received was not worth over $800
I had to wait an hour and a half for my rental to be ready but after having to travel through seven hours downpour to get back in being stressed out and sick over being late, I was charged a full extra day for four hours. And the rental car was not a full-size, it was a tiny midsize Kia that is not comfortable for someone who is 4’11. Kia is so cheap and they don’t have fully adjustable seats. Not to mention, whenever you turn on the defrost, which was on full blast for seven hours during a torrential downpour, you could tell it someone is smoked in the car. I am not a smoker. Randomly on the interstate, the car would smell like gasoline in the inside. That wasn’t conducive having a 3 year old in the car. Last but not least, I learned that the insurance I bought was not actually budget insurance. They informed me that your insurance was awful and then I should still buy theirs, which would’ve been a total of $100 avenger, more than the car rental initially. I’ve learned that it’s easier and cheaper just to buy A brand new car over renting a shitty one. I’m done with kayak and budget.
Verify your rental location! Flying in to Louisville Airport, and the pickup point was at a location 2 miles away from the airport that clised before my plane landed
I needed pickup 2 hours earlier than planned. The Tahoe I rented was not available then so It was necessary to accept a standard SUV at basically the same price. No bargain there. At drop-off, no machines were functioning which required a wait it line to get a receipt.

I waited four hours for a replacement in Newark. I ended up having to pay for a hotel because I got drowsy after waiting for four hours. I called Louisville to advise I was delayed and they still charged me for an extra day. Credit has not come through.
The car was clean and a nice vehicle.The car was not ready for us at the designated time. Then the attendant said they did not have one at all. After several hours she found one at another site. All this caused stress and delayed our vacation by more than 5 hours. Then the price was even higher than originally quoted not a single discount for my inconvenience or their confusion.
Great car - the second one that is - first was dirhelpful desk staff and cars right there at the terminalfirst car was dirty and the one person in the parking lot was on a phone in a running car near us talking loud with a foul mouth. It would be better for Avis if he was cleaning the dirty car they first gave us

At pickup, they would not let us add drivers without every driver having their own credit card. We’ve rented from several rental car companies over the past 8 years and have never needed all 3 listed drivers to have their own credit card, only the primary renter has needed a major credit card. When we asked to use a debit card and a deposit to add drivers, we were told “that’s not how we do things here” in a rude tone. Because of that, we had to make a 14 hour trip (one way) with only one driver, out of 3 capable adults. When we picked up the van, it wasn’t cleaned well. There was sand and dirt in the carpet all throughout the second and third rows, the cup holders in the center console had something sticky in them, and there were candy wrappers in the third row. I didn’t notice the sticky substance or the candy wrappers until later that evening, when we were packing up to leave, so I cleaned it and went on. The oil had also not been changed in the car. I kept getting “change oil soon” notifications. We will not be renting from National again. I was not impressed with the lack of cleanliness, their lack of proper maintenance their vehicles, or the rental policy on adding drivers.

I called National and cancelled the rental the same day as my search changed the rental dates and I did not notice until after I booked. I was still charged the additional insurance to my credit card and now fighting to have that refunded.
